Description

🔧 IR Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Module 2–30cm | AuscomTech

This compact infrared reflective sensor module detects nearby objects using an IR transmitter and receiver pair with an LM393 comparator circuit.

When reflected infrared light is detected from an object, the module switches its digital OUT signal and illuminates the output indicator LED. Detection distance can be adjusted using the onboard potentiometer.

Suitable for robot navigation, smart cars, proximity detection, object counting, reflective sensing and other Arduino, ESP32 and microcontroller projects.

⭐ Key Features

  • Adjustable Detection Distance – onboard potentiometer allows the sensing threshold to be adjusted over an approximate 2–30cm range.
  • Active Infrared Reflection – uses a dedicated IR emitter and receiver to detect reflected infrared light from nearby objects.
  • Digital Output – provides a simple HIGH/LOW signal suitable for direct connection to a microcontroller digital input.
  • Active-Low Detection – OUT switches LOW when an obstacle is detected and remains HIGH when no obstacle is detected.
  • LM393 Comparator – onboard comparator provides stable threshold-based switching.
  • Status Indicators – separate power and output LEDs provide quick visual indication of module operation.
  • Wide Logic Supply Range – operates from 3.3V to 5V DC for use with common development platforms.
  • Compact 3-Pin Interface – simple VCC, GND and OUT connections make integration straightforward.

  • Embedded automation projects

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Detection distance varies with object colour, reflectivity, size, surface angle and ambient infrared light.
  • Dark or low-reflectivity surfaces generally produce a shorter detection range than light reflective surfaces.
  • The potentiometer adjusts the detection threshold and should be calibrated for the intended target and environment.
  • When connecting to a 3.3V-only microcontroller input such as ESP32, operate the module from 3.3V or verify the OUT voltage is safe for the connected GPIO.
  • This is a reflective infrared sensor and is not intended for precise distance measurement.
