Description
🔧 QRE1113 Infrared Reflective Cliff Sensor Module | AuscomTech
This QRE1113 module is a compact infrared reflective sensing board with a digital capacitor discharge output.
It detects reflected IR light from nearby surfaces, allowing a microcontroller to identify changes between floor, edge, surface colour, and reflectivity.
It is suitable for small robotics projects where it can be used as a cliff sensor, edge detector, or line tracking sensor with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico, and similar controllers.
⭐ Key Features
- Cliff Detection Use – can help detect floor edges or drop-offs by sensing loss of reflected infrared light.
- Digital Output Circuit – uses capacitor discharge timing, so no ADC input is required.
- Infrared Reflective Sensing – onboard IR LED and phototransistor detect reflected light from nearby surfaces.
- Robot Line Tracking – useful for black and white surface detection in line follower robots.
- 3.3V and 5V Compatible – works with many common microcontroller platforms.
- Compact PCB – small board with 3-pin connection and mounting hole for easy robot installation.

⚠️ Important Notes
- For cliff sensing, mount the sensor close to the floor and test detection distance on the actual surface material.
- Surface colour, texture, angle, ambient light, and floor reflectivity will affect performance.
- This module is best suited to short-range sensing at approximately 3mm from the target surface.
- Use multiple sensors if your robot needs wider edge coverage or more reliable drop-off detection.
- Header pins may require soldering depending on supplied batch.
